Skardu is located at an elevation of more than 7,300 feet! It is a scenic valley with spectacular mountains around which literally make it a mountaineer’s paradise! There are fresh water springs, historical sights, lakes and the best weather which makes it a definite tourist attraction.
An interesting fact about Skardu is that fruits are the main source of income for locals over there; the Gilgit-Baltistan region is specifically known for its fresh and dried fruits. A variety of fruits like apricots, almonds, pears, walnuts, apples etc. are produced there every year.
Skardu is home to four of the world’s highest peaks, the Karakoram Range. The Karakoram Highway leading to Skardu and beyond gives a truly spectacular view of the Ranges and also has attracted the attention of trekkers around the world. Every year, expeditions are carried out by enthusiasts and professional mountain climbers around the months of April to October.
